Strawberry Chia Watermelon Smoothie

Intro & Description

It starts with ripe watermelon and some frozen ripe strawberries for a tart-sweet twist.

Lime adds a tart kick that offsets the sweetness of the fruit.

Almond milk creates a creamy texture, while banana adds a bit more substance and natural sweetness.

And chia seeds not only add nutrition and texture, but also mock watermelon seeds for more visual appeal.

Wowza, that’s one beautiful smoothie.

Ingredients:

  • 250ml BWG Watermelon Punch

  • 1 Cup frozen strawberries

  • ½ Medium ripe banana (previously peeled / chopped and frozen)

  • ½ Cup unsweetened plain almond milk

  • 1 Medium lime (juiced - 30 ml)

  • 1 Tablespoon chia or hemp seeds (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy and smooth, adding more almond milk to thin, or more frozen strawberries or ice to thicken.

  2. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more lime for acidity, banana for sweetness, or Watermelon Punch for a more intense watermelon flavor.

  3. Top with additional chia seeds to mock watermelon seeds!

  4. Best when fresh, though leftovers keep covered in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

Recipe Notes

You can use regular plain low-fat yogurt or if you’re fancy, vanilla yogurt makes a huge difference because…vanilla!

Frozen bananas are available in almost every store, but if you find some of your bananas going black and overripe, just peel them, throw them in a ziplock bag and freeze them. You can actually do this with any fruit that looks like it’s on its last legs. That way you don’t land up wasting, and it saves you money.

Chia seeds are a superfood that’s packed with fiber and protein.
